That’s Poker For You!

In case you didn’t know this, I LOVE LOVE LOVE Poker.  Luckily I live in Las Vegas, and just about any time of day or night, I have about a million choices of where I want to play and can play as long as I want to.  It’s GREAT!!!  I love it!

I didn’t start playing poker in real life until we moved here.  I played a little bit online with “play money”, but never in real life.  After Steve and I moved out here together, he talked me into playing 2-4 (which means the most you can be is 2 or 4 dollars).  It’s a cheap way of playing poker, but it’s also kinda loose play too.  Anyway, it didn’t take long for me to be hooked.

Then we found a free poker league, where we could play LOTS of “No Limit” hold’em (which means you can bet as much as you want) and not have to risk any actual money.  The only money we put out was the tips to the dealers, which was usually $2-4 per table.  This was great practice and great learning for us.

We then started playing live tournaments.  You buy in for a fixed dollar amount (our range is between $25-$65 per tournament) and then depending on how many players are in the game, you win a percentage of the prize pool.  We have won as much as $400 off one tournament.

Steve can talk me into playing poker just about any day or night.  All he has to do is say “wanna go play” and I’ve got my shoes on and I’m halfway out the door.  LOL!  Luckily we are both very into playing poker, so we have a lot of fun together.

I think its kinda funny because there aren’t many women poker players.  usually in the tournaments where there are 3-4 tables, I’m only one of 4 or 5 women.  Each table is usually 10 players, so it’s maybe 10% of the players are women.  Other men have even commented on how great it is that I like playing poker as much as Steve.  I think maybe I like it more than he does.  LOL  but it’s close.

Today we played a tournament and I got to the final table.  Unfortunately I didn’t have a whole lot of chips when I got there, so I didn’t make it to the money.  I went out with the best hand though, so at least there’s that.  I had Ace Queen, and the winner of the hand had 10/3.  He connected with the cards on the table and I didn’t.  So, he won, and I got knocked out.  That’s just the way things happen sometimes in poker.

It can be really frustrating sometimes when you just can’t get any good cards, or when your good cards don’t hold up.  But that’s poker.  It wouldn’t be fun if you didn’t know what was going to happen after the cards hit the table.  So I’ll keep playing, because there are plenty of times that I have the favor of the Poker Gods!  LOL
