Are YOU 1 in 3 Like Me?
This is not an easy post for me to write. I feel strongly that I need to post this though, so despite the excruciating embarrasment that I’m feeling, I will continue to write about this. It’s something that affects One in Three women in the US. I am that one. Are you?
1 in 3 women are like me and too embarrased about it to talk about it. We think we’re alone, but we’re not. How will we know we’re not alone if we don’t start talking about it now though? So, despite how embarrasing it is for me to talk about, here I am, talking/blogging about it.
It starting happening to me a little more than a year ago. Well, actually I think it’s happened to me most of my life really. Thinking back on the different times that I’ve laughed a little too hard. I guess I didn’t recognize it as a “problem” until about a year or so ago. I was sick and coughing a lot (much like I have been lately) and… well… a little “spritz” would happen.
Yes, ladies and gentleman, I’m talking about peeing my pants. Come on now, lets all be grown up here! LOL! I know it’s funny… when it’s not happening to you. When it IS happening to you, it’s mortifying!! It’s actually called “Light Bladder Leakage” or LBL. Like I said in the beginning of this post, 1 in 3 women have this problem. Some of us get this when we cough or sneeze (raising hand), others get it when they laugh a little too hard (yes I see your hand up over there!). Still others get a little wet when they are hugged too much (come on don’t be shy, raise those hands up!). It happens to a lot of us and NOT because we’re old or infirm… just because we’re women. (Isn’t that a nice little added bonus “gift” from nature?)
The reason I”m blogging about this icky, TMI subject, is because I deal with it every day (some more than others while I”m sick and hacking my lung up). But also because Poise has some fantastic informative articles, blogs, forums, and much more on their website! I heard about the website via HouseParty.com. I had missed out on actually getting to do a Poise “Women Who Laugh” house party, but I thought “What the Hell, I’ll blog about it anyway”. So here it is.
Some of the things that you can find out about on the Poise website is the Facts & Myths about LBL. You’ll get to hear other women’s stories about their personal experience, and you can even post your own stories or questions on their Poise Forums. There’s a great blog written by Marilyn Suttle, who is the LBL “Expert”. And you can get coupons and free samples from their website as well.
I tell you, after more than a year of living with this daily, I’ve learned a few things about Poise and other pads. I’ve learned that others don’t match up to them for sure! I’m a “thrifty” shopper, and will generally buy bargain or generic brands over the name brands. I don’t like huge sales tickets at the end of my shopping spree… but there are some things that you just can’t skimp on. These are one of those things!! If you’re going to have to use these pads, then you should try Poise first. Not only are they more comfortable than the others, but they keep you “feeling” dry and there is no odor either. And by the way, they did NOT send me a free product and they are not sponsoring this post in any way shape or form!! This is 100% my own opinion based on my own shopping and spending my own money! Although, if Poise would LIKE to sponsor my blog, I’d be happy to oblige! LOL!
Anyway, I just wanted to let other women know that they don’t have to suffer in silence any longer. 1 in 3 of us are suffering with you! Lets stop hiding and start talking! So, are YOU 1 in 3, like ME?

I knew you could do this. Great blog and yes it effects a lot of women me included. I found a treatment but had to look to Europe for it. Way to speak up.
Thank you so much, Heather! I’ve been wondering if there was some sort of treatment out there, and if it was something I’d want to consider. When I’ve been sick, like I have been for the last week, I REALLY consider it. LOL!
I looked at what was available here and realized doctors here are a bit surgery happy. This is a device used at home and has worked wonders.
Oh my goodness, I am right there with you. Maybe not as bad, but my mom has already told me to watch out because it will get worse post-kids. I like wearing a pad or something just so I feel dry!
.-= Natalie´s last blog ..No kid needed =-.
It’s definitely worse when I’m sick and coughing and sneezing constantly. LOL! Now I’m not coughing as much so it’s not too bad.
