My Gallstone Diet
Those things are nasty looking, aren’t they? Those are gallstones… not MY gallstones, but someones. These nasty little things have been acting up on me this week. I’ve been in pain because I cheated on my diet a teensy weensy HUGE bit. So I’m in pain and back on my “Jack Sprat Diet”. I thought I’d share some of the things I’ve been eating to get myself back on track.Breakfasts – Some of the things I’ve been eating for breakfast aren’t very different than my normal breakfasts. Sourdough bread only has .5 grams of fat per slice! It’s my favorite type of bread too, so I toast up a couple of slices, use fat free butter spread, and have a banana pus a cup of coffee with fat free non-dairy creamer. Total Fat – 1 gram
Other things I can have for breakfast are eggs (whole eggs have more fat than just the egg whites, but I like the yolks dammit!), various cereals (I found a fat free cereal that is similar to Special K), or rice with cinnamon & non fat milk. YUMMOH!
Lunch – Most of the time I’ve been eating plain white rice or a potato with fat free sour cream and fat free butter for lunch. I love potatoes so I’m pretty happy with this for lunch. Sometimes I’ll also have a green salad with some fat free dressing. Ken’s is one of my favorite fat free dressings, with their Sun Dried Tomato dressing as my favorite flavor. But there are many other brands who have fat free dressings, including Ranch!
Besides salad, potatoes and rice, I also can make myself fat free Turkey sandwiches on sourdough bread, with fat free mayonnaise. again, YUMMOH!
Dinner – Dinner is a little harder to be completely fat free, but generally I can stay under 15 grams of fat for dinner, which keeps my total daily fat intake at around 20. When using beef in my recipes, I get the 98% fat free beef, or buffalo meat. Buffalo is a lot leaner than beef and has a much richer flavor. I love it, but it is hard to find. Other than that I will use chicken without the skin, turkey, or fish. Beans are also a great low fat meal to make, especially pinto beans.
Snacks – one of my favorite fat free snacks to have is pretzels. They are always fat free! Popcorn without butter is also fat free, and if you have butter flavored sprinkles that are fat free, then you can have your movie theater popcorn and still no fat! If I haven’t had too much fat during the day, I’ll have a low fat snack of Lays Baked potato chips. They come in just a few flavors, but are very yummy. If they only came in Salt & Vinegar, my life would be so much happier!
Desserts – My favorite desserts are just about anything from Skinny Cow. They have all sorts of ice cream treats, like cookie ice cream sandwiches, fudge-icicles, and more. Also, did you know all Sherbets are low fat? I didn’t either! But they are! 2 grams of fat for 1/2 cup of sherbet. YUMMOH! Snackwells also has some wonderful cookies that are low in fat or fat free. My personal favorite is their Devils food cake cookies. They are fat free, and taste the same as regular ones. Kroger also has their “generic” brand of these cookies and they are about half the price and taste the same.
So there you have all the various things that I eat to stay healthy and keep my icky nasty yucky gallstones from hurting me too badly. Next time I’m going to talk about various remedies for gallstones, both natural and mainstream medical ways of getting rid of them. So come back!
Do you have a particular diet that you’re on? Let me know!
