Our Labor Day Trip

This last 3 day weekend we got into our minivan and headed north.  We went to Cheyenne, Wy via AZ, UT and then back to Las Vegas via CO, UT, & AZ.  It was my two boys, my honey, his mom & her dog, and myself, all piled into our Chevy Astro for three days.

We left Las Vegas at 4pm Friday night and stopped in Orem, UT for the night.  Then we traveled Saturday from Orem to Cheyenne on hwy 80 through Wyoming.  We didn’t get to Cheyenne until around 7:30pm that night.  The next day we explored Cheyenne… that only took about 2 hours.  LOL!  Of course we were mainly just trying to get an idea of the various areas of the city.  Steve and I are considering moving up there in the next year or two for business reasons. Most of our business customers are on the east coast of the country, and getting up earlier than 5am PST is just not possible for us.  But if we move to a different time zone, we could get up at the same time, but it’ll be earlier on the east coast.  We haven’t completely decided yet, but for other various reasons (i.e. political climate, weather, homeschooling laws, etc.) we only want to live in certain areas (also we need SOME mountains!).

Sunday we went to Fort Collins, CO and then traveled a “scenic byway” through some of the mountains in northern Colorado.  It was BEAUTIFUL!  The drive we took went from Fort Collins to the Wyoming border near Laramie, WY.  The highway followed the Poudre River and up through North Park.  It was on this drive that suddenly a Moose appeared and ran across the road.  We came >< that close to hitting it!  And then it sauntered off and into the woods.  I was barely able to catch a glimpse of it in the camera, because I had put it away before this happened.

Then Monday morning, bright and early, we all got back into the car to drive home.  We actually started out from Cheyenne at 8am.  The trip home we took the 25 down to the 70 and went through northern Denver and then back into Utah.  We figured it might put a few extra hours on our travel, but it would be a little prettier, and we hadn’t been through Colorado yet.  We didn’t get home until 10pm.  Mostly because we stopped to see Buffalo Bills grave in Denver and did a little shopping.  LOL!

It was a great trip.  We spent a lot of hours in our van, but it was well worth it.  First it was beautiful country in Wyoming and Colorado (I’ve always loved Colorado).  It was also a HUGE relief from the heat!  In Wyoming it never got more than 85, and it only did that on Monday!  It rained while we were there too.  And then we got to see all sorts of wildlife!  the moose, deer, antelope, deer, antelope and more antelope!  I’d never been to Wyoming before, so it was pretty great seeing another part of our beautiful country.  I hope that our video of our trip conveys that beauty!  Enjoy!
