JuiceBoxJungle – Grandma Said What?!?

More parenting videos on JuiceBoxJungle

So I found, or actually it found me, a new site for moms that I joined, because I’m just a joiner and it was fun and quirky.  I found it through TwitterMoms and I decided to join up.  I figured that maybe this will give me some interesting things to talk about on my “Whatever” blog and maybe will give anyone who happens onto this site some interesting things to read about… besides my blathering on about whatever!  So here’s the first installment.

JuiceBoxJungle is a site that posts short little video’s about a specific interesting and sometimes controversial topic.  Then the members, who are all bloggers, post the episode on their blog and then… well they blog about it, duh!  Sometimes humorous, sometimes pithy, sometimes ranting and raving… but always interesting!

This weeks episode is about Grandmothers…. Love them or Hate them?  When a mom needs some time away from the kids, be it for business or pleasure, is it worth it when Grandma spoils them rotten?  You can go to JuiceBoxJungle and vote on it or leave a comment here.  To see the video you can click on the link below or look to the sidebar on the right.

My story?

As you may or may not know, I’m a single mom.  I’ve been single for 12  years now.  I tried to do it on my own, living in my own apartment, but it just didn’t work.  Mostly because I was having to be to dependant on my ex to get me to and from work and for babysitting.  So I moved in with my Mom and my oldest sister about 6 months after I left my husband.  It was REALLY hard at first.  But then, most divorces are hard to go through.  I however, wanted more than just a babysitter and a place to stay, I was also homeschooling.

It wasn’t so bad while I wasn’t working outside of the home, but it soon got to the point where I absolutely HAD to get an outside job.  My mother was great though.  She totally supported my decision to homeschool, which was amazing!  So when I went back to work, she did everything she could to help out, and tried really hard not to “take over” or over step my authority while helping.  She did a great job!  There were some things that we would argue about, but for the most part it was great!

Two years ago my long time boyfriend and I moved in together with my sons.  We all moved to Las Vegas, including my mom and sister.  They live a couple miles away from us.  This has been really great for her and my boys because now, even though they still are with her a lot, she gets to spoil them rotten!  They go get ice cream, have pizza for breakfast/lunch/dinner, stay up late, stay in bed late, and don’t have to do any chores.  I think my mom really likes this because she doesn’t have to be the disciplinarian anymore, so she can just have fun with them.  Of course they still get into trouble, after all they are teenagers, but it’s a little easier on everyone now.

So what’s your story?  Do you have your mom or mother-in-law babysit?  How does that work for you?  Let us know and don’t forget to watch the episode at JuiceBoxJungle.
